Between the villages of Santa Maria Poggio and San Nicolao, go and discover the Ulcelluline waterfall and its natural pools. The site is illuminated at night.
The arrival by road, at the exit of the San Nicolao tunnel dug into the rock, is in itself already very picturesque and quite spectacular.
On the Corniche road, between two tunnels, signs indicate the waterfall and its Bucatoggio river.
It is not always easy to find a place: one solution is to park your car before the tunnel, because you will find a small parking lot near the Serpentina Fountain, which dates from 1910.
Don’t hesitate to stop off in this small, very typical village of San Nicolao, which will remind you on a much smaller scale of the most beautiful Corsican villages.
It is a wild, preserved site, with fresh and clear water from the Bucatoggio which ends in the sea. This waterfall which opens to your view from the bridge remains secret, because its access on foot is steep and requires caution.
It is not recommended for children, the elderly and visitors with pets.
This path which climbs steeply, with sometimes slippery and wet rock, goes to the right and leads to the basin located approximately 30 meters above the bridge. From above you will have a very beautiful panorama of the waterfall and the surrounding area.
It is a very popular walk during the day, which can be done at night because the lighting gives a slightly spooky look, especially when there is a bit of vaporous and mysterious mist: it is the ideal time to reread the Corsican tales and legends !
However, you must be extremely vigilant to avoid falling on the path.
The discovery of the Cascade de l’Ucceline and San Nicolao is done quite quickly. It’s an easy little excursion from the Moriani-Plage accommodations, if you want to escape the heat of the coast to find some freshness and greenery, all in less than 15 minutes!
The bravest who climb the pool will be able to swim in the Bucatoghju natural swimming pool in San-Nicolao, fresh water guaranteed !
From Moriani-Plage, allow around 15 minutes by car via the D 334 towards Mucchio: there are barely 7 km between the beach and the waterfall.
