THE STRUCCIA WATERFALL

Struccia waterfall – Carcheto-Brustico

A marvelous waterfall located in the heart of a lush chestnut forest, the Struccia Waterfall is found in the Castagniccia region, located on the heights of the Eastern Coast, where you can find numerous green spaces: rivers, torrents, waterfalls, natural basins…

It is the very example of the image we have of Corsican forests, at the foot of the mountain, in an atmosphere where nature envelops you in its silence and tranquility.

Also called Cacheto Waterfall, the Struccia waterfall is located on the D71, halfway between Piedicroce and the Arcarota pass.

In the heart of the Orezza valley, Cacheto Brustico is easily accessible via the D71 between Ponte-Leccia and the N198 in Prunete. Once you are in the village (which has only 30 inhabitants!), locate the bar “Chez Armand” (locality Casanova) and park your vehicle near the church.

From the village of Cacheto-Brustico, follow the path on foot starting from the baroque Sainte-Marguerite church. After just a few minutes of walking towards the cemetery, you arrive at the Fontaine di l’Onda, A Funtana di l’Onda. Below, about 100 meters away, you discover a truly beautiful spectacle with the walls of a stone cirque, probably century-old trees and in the heart of this enchanting green setting, a beautiful waterfall on 15 meters high, the Struccia Waterfall.

Spend a few moments admiring this spectacle of nature, remaining on the belvedere.

The water is truly the symbol of this region of Castagniccia, with thermal water rich in iron used since 1856. Since then, Orezza sparkling mineral water has been part of Corsican heritage, and must be present on a table to accompany local products. If you pass through Orezza, don’t hesitate to visit this industrial site, because the Orezza mineral water building is a very fine example of 19th century industrial architecture. It was also renovated in 1998.

From the belvedere, you can go down the steps to go to the pool and why not swim in fresh water rich in minerals and trace elements.

If you continue the trail and you have an hour to spare, you can head towards the village of Piedipartino, between forests and natural swimming pools, for a very easy walk in the heart of this beautiful Corsican region.

You can make a loop back, heading back east to cross the river again. Allow an hour for the loop with a difference in altitude of just 50 m.
