You will travel into a world of flavors with Corsican beer created exclusively from local products (myrtle, clementine, etc.) which is the great value of artisanal breweries.
Corsican beer has experienced a meteoric rise since the early 2000s, thanks in particular to the creation of the Pietra brewery. A sweet, amber Corsican beer made from chestnut flour, or Colomba, a white beer with flavors of maquis herbs….
Indeed, this brewery is today one of the largest independent breweries in France! Created in 1995 by Armelle and Dominique Sialelli, the latter is of Corsican origin and comes from the village of Pietraserena. It is also from the name of this village that the name of the Pietra brewery comes.
You can also taste La Colomba, a white beer from the Pietra brewery. It is a white beer flavored with herbs from the Corsican maquis.
Discover Corsican liqueurs
During your vacation in Corsica, taste the island’s liqueurs and spirits as aperitifs or digestives. You will have the choice of different types of liqueurs with incomparable flavors made from herbs and plants of the maquis such as myrtle and chestnut, or even based on Corsican fruits such as citrus fruits (especially pomelo), chestnut, red myrtle.
Myrtle liqueur: it is on all Corsican gastronomic tables. After maceration for 40 days in the distilleries, the liqueur is kept for 2 months to give it its final flavor.
Cédrat liqueur: very popular in Corsica, it dates from 1884 thanks to the Corsican distiller Louis Napoleon Mattei. Manufacturers use citron, a citrus fruit ancestor of the lemon, cut into zest and macerated in alcohol and sugar.
Corsican chestnut liqueur: Also called breadfruit, it is a fruit that holds an important place in Corsica. They used chestnut flour to fight famine. Did you know that a region bears his name: Castagniccia. It is a Corsican liqueur par excellence.
