Lake Bastani, peaking at 2090 meters above sea level, facing Monte Renoso, is one of the most beautiful and highest lakes in Upper Corsica. Accessible after 4 hours of walking, you will have the merit of discovering its magnificent emerald green color in the middle of a mineral landscape and Monte D’Oro and Monte Rotondo.
Hike Monte Renoso and Lake Bastani
Monte Renoso is among 6 largest peaks on the island with Monte Cinto, Monte Rotondo, Paglia Orba, Monte Padru, Monte d’Oro. It is also one of the most accessible via a hike to Lake Bastani, at an altitude of 2,089m. A panoramic view awaits you over the region and the Monte d’Oro and Rotondo. Practically located in the center of the island, between Ghisoni and the Col de Verde, the departure is located at the large parking lot of the Capannelle-Ghisoni Ski Resort, at the end of the D169A. Simply follow the directions to Monte Renoso – one of the 5 highest peaks in Corsica.
The hike to the lake is accessible for families with children who are used to hiking in the mountains. The hike has two fairly steep climbs but the trail is well marked. If the start presents some small difficulties with a steep slope and unstable ground, the rest of the hike is easier. The magnificent green and mineral panorama will motivate you in your ascent. On the Pizzolo plateau at 1893 meters, take a bucolic and photographic break in front of the green carpets of cows. After a little more effort, Lake Bastiani opens up to your amazed eyes.
The emerald green color of this glacial lake, frozen 7 months a year, comes from the filamentous algae present in the lake. Heart-shaped, we can say that it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the center of the island of beauty. Although it has an area of 4.4 hectares and a depth of 24 meters, you cannot swim there.
From the lake, it takes 1 hour more to reach Monte Renoso.
