In the Balagne region, Argentella beach is part of the bay of Crovani, between Galéria and Calvi. This natural and wild site is little urbanized and this pebble beach is one of the most beautiful in the north of the island. Look at these rocks closely, because you will be surprised by their varied hues, explained by the fact that it is a region very rich in minerals: this beach takes its name from old silver mines, the remains of which can still be seen. This is why the beach changes color during the day, with the morning and late afternoon giving the warmest and most magical hues, with even pebbles that can tend towards mauve.
For several years now, a small straw hut has been set up to eat, it’s pleasant if you have decided to spend the day there because there are neither showers nor toilets on the beach: nature in its most sense. strong !
However, it is a beach to avoid in case of strong wind and westerly seas, because the waves can make swimming sporty or even dangerous.
A large part of the bay is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral
With the Crovani pond and the lagoon to the south, and the beautiful Scandola reserve near Galéria. You will also notice that there are quite a few small fish in the northern part of the bay, where you can bring a mask and snorkel.
A path leaves the site, passing near the castle of Prince Pierre Bonaparte. It was built on the ruins of an ancient Genoese tower, the Torre Mozza. At the ruins of the old mine, you can admire a panoramic view of the bay of Crovani and the sea, while you can see the wind turbines of Pietra Tonda in the distance. The mining site opened in 1856 was abandoned in the 1930s, where copper and silver-bearing lead were produced, with Lake Argentella and its small dam nearby. It is not as spectacular as the great lakes of Haute-Corse, but it is a pleasant and refreshing walk.
Access is easy from the RD81b, 16 km from Calvi, and there is the possibility of parking along the beach for free.
It is an unsupervised beach and prohibited for dogs, even if kept on a leash.
Don’t hesitate to go there, because it is a large, uncrowded beach, accentuating its wild and preserved character.
