THE MONTE ROTONDO

Monte Rotondo

Monte Rotondo: one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Corsican mountains

Mountain and hiking enthusiasts will enjoy discovering Corsica and the choice of activities and landscapes it has to offer. Monte Rotondo, in the Restonica valley, near the town of Corte, will offer you a landscape as beautiful as it is varied. These hikes in the mountainous paradises of Corsica require good preparation and good shoes.

Monte Rotondo is an imposing ridge in the island’s middle ridge and the third peak on the island after Monte Cintu and Capu Ciuntrone. It remains one of the most visited Corsican peaks due to its exceptional beauty at the top. A challenging and long route to deserve the view of a 360° panorama, one of the most beautiful in the Corsican mountain range. Ferdinand Gregorovius said it in 1852: “the horizon, which we dominate from the Rotondo, is by far more grandiose and more impressive than that of Mont Blanc”. It is true that in good weather, you will have an exceptional view over all the mountain peaks and lakes.

The ascent of Monte Rotondo is a very impressive hike through beautiful landscapes, a real challenge for mountain hikers with a steep climb of 1600 m high. Monte Rotondo can be approached from the north (day hike from the Restonica valley) or from the south (two-day excursion with a stop at the Pietra-Piana refuge)

On arrival, a famous cabin awaits hikers who enjoy taking beautiful souvenir photos of their getaway in the Corsican mountains.

The Restonica valley in the heart of Corsica

Absolutely worth discovering, the Restonica valley is a wild jewel of Corsica with its emerald lakes, its gorges and its crystal-colored waterfalls. To reach Monte Rotendo, starting from the citadel of Corte, the tricky road crosses the river, runs alongside old sheepfolds and laricio pines, and makes its way through granite peaks. Idyllic landscapes, bathed by waterfalls where children can enjoy natural swimming pools. As for wildlife, the Restonica valley is a treasure with its goats, foxes, great spotted woodpeckers and golden eagles.
