THE MONTE CINTO

Monte Cinto

Monte Cito – hike to the roof of Corsica

Mountain and hiking enthusiasts will enjoy discovering Corsica and the choice of activities and landscapes it has to offer. Among the best-known peaks and the highest in Corsica, Monte Cinto culminates at 2706 meters from the Haut-Asco station in the middle of the laricio pines. Monte Sito is located in Upper Corsica between the municipalities of Asco and Vozzi, it is accessible on stage 4 of the GR20 (North-South direction).

From its height, Monte Cito can only be majestic, a sharp rock that defies the mountainous landscape of Corsica. The route to reach it will necessarily be the GR20, a key stage of this hiking trail.

The Corsican mountains… demanding summits via the GR20

Corsica is essentially made up of a long mountain range divided into four massifs. From North to South: the Monte Cinto Massif, the Monte Rotondo Massif, the Renoso and finally the Monte Incudine Massif.

Often hostile but so captivating, the Corsican mountains offer sporting routes which add even more to the spirit and beauty of the territory of Corsica and Northern Corsica. On the GR20 route, Monte Cito is a summit that is earned with effort but upon arrival, the beauty is almost blinding !

Compared to the Alps, the Corsican mountains are not really welcoming, but that is why they are so fascinating for adventurers looking for challenges. His hostility and his pride push him to surpass himself. In a mountainous setting devoid of any wildlife, the lack of hospitality of its maquis, its austere faces, its silence, the high Corsican mountains seduce.

“The Corsican mountain is a place of confrontation. We come to prove things to ourselves and surpass ourselves. It is an adversary worthy of the human being’s desire to surpass oneself, which relegates the notion of contemplation to the background. Corsica is also the perfect combination of altitude and coastline. Two diametrically opposed universes yet merged into one and the same territory” (source: http://www.carnetsderando.net)

From the top of Monte Cito, the sea merges with the horizon. You can see the Gulf of Porto and Calvi but also the coast of Aléria, to the east. The great peaks of Northern Corsica will all be revealed.
