It is not one of the best known on the island but we can say it, Lake Oriente is one of the most beautiful lakes in Corsica. In a beautiful green setting, above the famous Restonica valley near Corte, Lake Oriente offers all its beauty at the foot of Mount Rotondo.
Set off on the paths of the Restonica valley
The Restonica valley is an ideal region for discovering the natural beauty of the Corsican mountains and lakes via hiking trails. You deserve through the effort the discovery of the beautiful Lake Oriente and its magical setting because its ascent is not the easiest with its 1000 meters of altitude difference. A good dose of motivation, sportsmanship and good shoes will be essential but it is definitely worth the detour.
Hike in Corte towards Lake Loriente
Go for the hike from Lake Oriente to Corte in the hollow of the peaks of Mount Rotondo, at around 2000m altitude, for a magnificent view of the Restonica valley. Discover the idyllic landscapes of the Corsican high mountains, feel a true feeling of freedom and purity on the peaks of the island of beauty. With its green lawn, Lake Oriente offers its dazzling colors with large pozzines nearby and numerous animals coming to graze on the fresh grass.
At the foot of the Rotondo massif, it takes around 4/5 hours of walking there and back for the more sporty. A hike best done in summer to benefit from milder weather in the heights. Plan a day trip with a picnic, to spend peaceful moments facing Lake Oriente and the snow-covered peaks of Monte Rotondo.
The start of the hike is located in the Restonica valley (start of the road from Corte, Center Corsica), 700m after the Timozzo bridge. A sign indicates the start of the path towards Lake Oriente. The climb begins immediately and continues to the Timozzo sheepfolds and the path continues on rocky and rocky parts.
A beautiful waterfall will announce the proximity of Lake Oriente. Once at the plateau, you will be amazed by a panorama of all the nature of the mountains: green soils, calm and clear water, pozzines with the reward of the snow-capped peaks of Monte Rotondo even in summer.
